For those of you that have ever watched Pirates of the Carribean the Curse of the Black Pearl, have you ever noticed a major plot hole, one that would completely kill the story. I didn't notice it the first time around, but then on like my fifth viewing (I had nothing else to watch) I was casually paying attention, not really thinking about anything when this came to me.
When Elizabeth, as an adult falls into the sea the coin calls out to the pirates. Then, hours later, in the dead of night they finally arrive and come far up onland to take her and the coin back so they can break the curse. But when young Will Turner is rescued from the wreckage of the burning ship he is soaking wet, obviously having been in the sea the pirates do not seek him out to get the coin back. If you watch the Writers Commentary at the very end, during the credits, one of the writers sums up the plot, even with a small amount of back information, then when he comes to the part where young Will is being rescued he explains this "little" plot hole away by saying that either Will did not actually get into the water or that the pirates were leaving for fear of the Dauntless, "The power in these waters," which is a 100 gun battle ship. The latter of which is a logical reason for the Black Pearl to flee. But here in lies the rub, as I mentioned when Elizabeth falls in the pirates come far up on shore and know exactly where to find her (sure most of the crew coems ashore, but this I think is to provide action and to cause mayhem to disguise the true reasons for coming to port, not so the whole crew could search for the coin simply because it seems that the two that capture her where the ones with specific orders to do so). When they came upon the ship that Will was on they wouldn't have known that the coin was aboard, but once they had began sinking the ship (which would have happened long before the Dauntless arrived because no cannon fire, or fighting can be heard at all, not even before the scene had started, otherwise the Dauntless crew would have been on the lookout for the action, which they weren't) and Will had entered the water it would have been a short time before they apprehended him.
I know that the whole movie would have been pointless without the pirates not finding it on this given day, but a major plot hole that completely makes the movie pointless such as this is the one type of plot hole that shouldn't be overlooked.
